The 15 year old acts as immature as the 11 year old. What should their bedtimes be?

  1. I would say 8:30, this way by 9:30 they should be fast asleep.

  2. 15 yr old 10:00

    11 yr ols 9:30

The 15 yr old should be getting about 8 1/2 hrs of sleep and the 11 yr old needs 9 hrs of sleep. If 6:30am is wake up time then 10:00 is fine for 15 yr old. and 9:30 for 11 yr old based on a 6:30 wake up time.

  3. What time do they have to get up? At their ages they need 8-10 hours of sleep. Go from there.

  4. Well, depends on the child.  My 15 year old has always been pretty independent about bedtimes, even when he was smaller.  When he gets tired, he goes to bed.  He is never late for school or non-functioning due to not getting enough sleep at night.  Since he handles this responsibly, I don't feel the need to step in and police him.

Based on your question, I'm guessing your 15 year old doesn't do this.  I think it depends on how much sleep an individual needs.  My son is usually in bed before 10PM and up before 6 AM.

My 12 year old, OTOH, needs a set bedtime.  If I left it up to her, she would stay up until 3AM.  She is also not much of a morning person, so she's hard to get moving.  Her bedtime is between 8:30 and 9 PM.  If she gets up good in the morning, she can stay up until 9.  If I'm dragging her out of bed by her heels, it's 8:30.  Wake up time is 6:15.

With older children, I do try to give them some control, based upon the individual.

  5. depending on time the get up for school in the morning I would say both in bed by 9 and not allowed and caffeine past 6. I would also start the bedtime routine about 2 weeks before school starts so they get used to the bed time changes.

  6. 15 - 10.30

    11 - 9.15

  7. As I am a fifteen year old, I now get the privilege to go to sleep on my own. I usually lay down at 9:30, read until 10:15 and shut the lights out no later than 10:30. This leaves me about eight hours of sleep due to the fact I have to wake up at 5:30...  You could try that and see if your 15 year old will respond more positively if he/she has the right to show their responsibility to you. If not enforce their bed time which I would make any where between 10:00-10:30

    15: 10:00-10:30

    11: 9:15-9:30

    Hope I've helped... :)

  8. 9pm for the younger, 10pm for the elder.

Don't worry about the immaturity of the 15 year old.  It's part of being 15 years old.  We've all been there and know that being a teenager isn't easy. The 15 year old will grow out of the silliness eventually.
