With students at receiving end, QB Colt McCoy throws may land him in trouble-NFL News
Cleveland Browns’ quarterback, Colt McCoy, in a bid to do a favour to some local school kids in Illinois by leaving them at the receiving end of his throws, seems to have landed himself in trouble.
Officials from the Illinois High School Association are said to be investigating the workout, which could possibly see the player facing some difficulties.
The particular point of concern for the QB may be the fact that those students who were put at the reception of the throws included some who do not play football at all.
It turns out to be the focal point of the investigation by the authorities.
It is unclear what sort of punishment McCoy could face in case of being found in violation of rules.
The issue of safety of the students can be a cause of worry for authorities as well as the player.
It is to be seen if the player compromised on the safety of the students, and especially of those who did know how to play the American football, by allowing them to receive his throws.
Sacred Heart-Griffin coach, Ken Leonard, said:
“We had some kids who were out of study hall. Some of the kids didn’t even play football. It was a once-in-a-lifetime chance for them. We’re not making a big deal of it. We don’t want to force the issue. It’s in (the IHSA’s) hands. We’ll do what they tell
us to do.”
The executive director of the Association, Marty Hickman, who is heading the investigations and will be making the final ruling, said that their review will focus on the issue of the activity being in violation of rules.
He, however, thinks that the activity was not in contravention of any law.
Although, there are very few chances of McCoy being punished over the issue, the player still faces the risk. In case he is somehow linked to the compromising of students’ safety it will be very damaging to his reputation.
He also faces the possibility of receiving a penalty from the National Football League (NFL), which has rather strict code of conduct for its players.
It all started with McCoy happened to be at the school to attend a Fellowship of Christian Athletes banquet, when he decided to throw ball for students present there.
The player, who apparently was attempting to provide some entertainment to the students, could not realise the sensitivity of the matter.
It is not clear if McCoy knew that the bunch of students included those who do not play American football.
He is lucky to have escaped the possibility of any injury to any of them.
If that had happened, the player would have been certainly in a seriously difficult situation.
Now, the player is hoping that the association does not prolong the issue and does not come up with a ruling that leads to more controversie and difficulties for the players.
