With the advent of downloadable HD movies, aren't both Blu-Ray and HD obsolete?

  1. I think so... but most of the world does not have anywhere to store the stuff they download, and they want to keep what they downloaded... Instead of a high-capacity hard drive array, individual discs give people comfort.


  2. No because the picture quality is not up to bar with Blu-ray or HD DVD.....the bandwidth is not yet high enough for downloading 25 GB or larger movies which is currently what Blu-Ray is. So what do they do? they give us 1080p image but so heavily compressed that it looks no better than upscaled DVD. So in my opinion Blu-Ray is the way to go for top quality video and sound.

  3. Personally, I think standard DVDs are more than clear enough for my viewing. I don't understand why anyone would pay the extra 10-20 dollars for a cleaner appearance. Standard DVDs have already gone a long ways from scratchy antenna broadcasts. Blu-Ray's a good innovation for data-packed games, but for movies.... well... not all that necessary.
