  1. Because people are sheep and they'll do what they're told.

No one seems to understand weather patterns...

  2. That global warming is mad-made is a proven fact. There is no "evidence" to the contrary--and no "debate."  Unless you count oil company propaganda as "evidence"--because that is ALL any of the fake "skeptics" has ever come up with.

  3. You are correct...global warming is NOT man made. Earth's average temperature greatly depends on it's distance from the sun. Throughout millions of years, Earth's orbit changes from more circular to more elliptical. During these changes, the water on the planet will naturally freeze and melt...hence Ice Ages. We are currently in between Ice Ages.

    That being said...

The issue now is that since the industrial revolution, man has contributed to an increased level of global warming due to the exponential increase in CO2 emissions.

The theory is that this increase in CO2 emissions is raising the average temperature around the Earth at a rate never seen before. If this rate continues, the idea is that the polar ice caps will melt (there is evidence that the caps are melting very quickly).

    Check this chart out...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Carbo...

It shows historical variations in the CO2 in the Earth's atmosphere (based on data from ice core samples taken in Antartica). Notice the regular pattern over the past 400,000 years. THen look at the last 100 years. We're literally "off the charts" so to speak.

In the controversial movie "An Inconvenient Truth", they plot Earth's average temperature over the same graph and they match almost exactly. This proves that the level of CO2 in the atmosphere is deirectly related to the Earth's average temperature. This means, according to the current data, we will see a huge increase in Earth's average temperature.

Global Warming is not CAUSED by humans. Humans ARE however causing an ACCELERATION of Global warming.

    That's my understanding at least...

  4. Yeah, it makes you wonder if all these guys are in a boiler room somewhere just going for death by a thousand paper cuts.

Oh, no, we're the guys in the boiler room...

Two boiler rooms.  One with guys in black suits and skinny black ties.  The other with guys with long hair, scraggly beards and sandals.

    Battle of the titans!!!

  5. Well, what about all the evidence that shows it's real and man made? Just because you can't stand the fact that you might have to change and make sacrifices doesn't mean that those hundreds, even thousands, of scientists are wrong

  6. There's actually a great deal of evidence suggesting that the current warming is anthropogenic. For example, the warming bears all the signs of an enhanced greenhouse effect, such as more warming at night, stratospheric cooling, etc. And we know that humans are mostly responsible for this enhancement, since we've been putting massive amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere over the past century.

In fact I'd be very surprised to find that we weren't having at least *some* effect on the climate, because it would mean there's something very wrong with our understanding of physics. Thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, etc. would all have to be fundamentally flawed for anthropogenic global warming theory to be wrong.

But I'm willing to give you a shot at changing my mind. What's the evidence showing that the warming isn't anthropogenic?

  7. Again Bob.....Get a clue!!!

  8. I'm a MSc atmospheric chemistry student, and from what I know most of the debate is because of "modeling", which is in this case a model that describes atmospheric conditions. We don't know if our modeling is replicating the atmosphere the way it should. We use smog chamber experiments and computer modeling that replicate atmospheric chemistry, however, the problem is none of the mechanisms we think exist are 100% accurate. It's like in the 50's when people were using freons and CFC's and atmospheric chemists were saying 'it's fine, it's not gonna cause any problems' but their modeling was wrong.

There's another concern, which is "feedback". Our emissions (anthropogenic) for the most part, gives positive feedback to that of the biogenic emissions, which will disturb the balance of nature causing increase in certain chemical rates as a result of increasing their reactant's respective concentrations.

    Hope this helps!

  9. Global warming doesn't exist. It's another government lie.

  10. It goes against their agenda policies that is why. They can not admit to being wrong but want others to all the time.  These people do not care they just want to shut down our way of living so we can live like the freakin indians and shut off the lights so we can be atune with nature again. They always say the world over populated but never volunteer to kill them selves so they are just selfish.  They eat, breathe, and pollute but it is the fault of others not theirs because they "care".

  11. Yes, global warming is a "natural phenomenon" however, we must look at the evidence that paleoclimatologists have collected over the last 60 years.

Any increase in global temperature in 350 million years of documented climate history from ice cores, ocean cores and swamp cores shows a significant increase in either carbon dioxide or methane prior to that change in climate.

The carbon dioxide levels in our current atmosphere mostly from human causes, is much higher than is "normal" for the earth, and can have unknown consequences.

50 years of weather and temperature studies in Hawaii have concrete evidence of increases in global temperature.

The arctic ice sheets are melting at extreme rates, the greenland ice sheets and the glaciers in the mountains of tibet are receeding hundreds of feet each year, and are not being replaced by seasonal drops in temperature. Those glaciers provide fresh water for over 300 million people....without it, what do they do?

You can call the poles (north and south) the earths air conditioner. Without them, things don't cool down like ocean and surface temperature. As the ocean temps increase, they release more carbon dioxide and methane into the atmosphere.

Methane leaks off of landfills in ridiculous rates. That's why recycling and composting makes so much sense - the less we put into landfills, the less contribution to that toxic soup we have.

There is evidence that the north pole used to be tropical - like the Florida Everglades - a significant shift in climate made them like they are today.  Large releases of methane frozen on the bottom of the oceans was what contributed to that significant shift.  Oceanographers are documenting an alarming increase in methane release due to the warming of the oceans.

Yes volcanic activity contributes to climate change - but the relatively little volcanic activity we have today is miniscule in comparison - the largest contributor to greenhouse gasses is things like;  cutting down old growth forests (over 90% of them), landfill pollution, the millions of trucks which collect the trash, energy waste of homeowners and businesses, pollution from lawn mowers and weed wackers, the extraction and burning of coal for energy....the list goes on.

The results of these increases in greenhouse gases are as of yet unknown - but do we take a cross our fingers approach or a preventative approach?  I'd much rather do something to prevent the pollution of the earth than hope that we will leave something good for our grandchildren......the way things are going, I think we will leave them a brown earth with limited resources, not a green one.

It's like if you found you had cancer - would you cross your fingers and hope it went away - or would you do something to prevent and treat it..............

  12. They either have too much time invested in the myth, or they are getting money from grants and need to keep the myth alive.

  13. I am beginning to feel as if reading and answering questions about global warming is futile. I wonder whether or not some of these questions are asked simply to see how stupid the responses will be. The huge number of posts who seem to really believe that global warming is not of any concern is astonishing. I do not know if humans are causing it or if it will happen again as it has in the past and I do not think it is worth arguing if we do not face the fact that we are doing more damage to Earth than it can probably handle and it is probably going to get much worse. Many emerging countries are just beginning to produce wastes. Toss your joint away and look around when you come back down.

  14. bob you are dumbing down america with your stupid questions, i know questions aren't supposed to be stupid, but yours is, and you are too.

  15. I believe that the current alarm of global warming is nothing more than a, sly take upon naturally occuring climactic trends, ruse by big industry to cover thier tracks, in the comming calamity of chemical poisoning to all vertebrates and the insuing chaos, to diffray and confuse human suffering, based on climate!

  16. CO2 + GW = egg on face

You might be interested to know the recalculations of corrupt data has been completed by UAH and shows a cooler climate then purposed as seen by RSS and satellite feeds. This may only be a short lived cycle but they don't really know.Feb 07,2008 issue.

  17. Nice list of "evidence" you got there ;-) ;-)

    Edit:

Richard - "Baghdad Bob" that's hilarious and so fitting.

  18. Because the amount = 0.

  19. I don't know.

I guess all the scientists in the world are stupid, ignorant, or in a giant conspiracy.  And all the world leaders, too.  It surely includes these guys:

"Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich challenged fellow conservatives to stop resisting scientific evidence of global warming"

"National Review (the most prestigious conservative magazine) published a cover story calling on conservatives to shake off denial and get into the climate policy debate"

"Pat Robertson (very conservative Christian leader) 'It is getting hotter and the ice caps are melting and there is a build up of carbon dioxide in the air.  We really need to do something on fossil fuels.”

"I believe there is now more than enough evidence of climate change to warrant an immediate and comprehensive - but considered - response. Anyone who disagrees is, in my view, still in denial."

Ford Motor Company CEO William Clay Ford, Jr.

"The science of global warming is clear. We know enough to act now. We must act now."

James Rogers, CEO of Charlotte-based Duke Energy.

  20. Some people believe it because the earth has cold and warm episodes naturally. However nowadays everything indicates an 'unnormal' climatic change.

  21. It is normal for the earth to go through cycles of ice at the poles and ice absent at the pole.

It is much more frequent for the earth to have no ice at the poles.

Humans have known only periods with ice at the poles, so what looks abnormal to them is normal for the earth.

......It is also normal for the earth not to have humans.

  22. I see it's time for our daily dose of disinformation from "Bob." Show us your evidence Bob.

    Mine is below...

EDIT - Bob is actually "Baghdad Bob" the former Iraqi Information Minister here to spread his propaganda.

  23. Provide this evidence that you speak of. I know there is evidence that does show man's contribution to GW and I will provide. So put up the evidence as you claim or please get informed before posting c**p.
