  1. Nothing.

The SUV, (Jeep Wrangler,) is perfectly suited to my life. I can afford one car, one insurance policy and gas. (How else do you expect me to get a cooler, camping gear, and a 70 pound dog up a mining road halfway across the country?)

I'm not rich, I wince at the pump, but considering my background in aviation, and the costs of avgas and jet fuel, my SUV and current usage of automotive gasoline doesn't justify any change in my life. (Did you ever try to put a Husky onto a moped? One squirrel and you're doomed if you've  still got the leash on your wrist.)

  2. my driving habit never changed from my poor days in college where I had to stretch $3 to last me for 3 days!  LOL

I keep my tires appropriately inflated:  I do not accelerate hard from one stop sign/light to another; and if I see the light is turning red ahead, I coast to the intersection.  On the freeway, I use the cruise control as much as possible and when going up hill, I turn off my AC if it's on.  I drive a 4cylinder car and a manual at that.  I also drive with my windows closed as much as possible- the wind drafts will kill your gas mileage.

I also make it a point to walk a much as possible:  meaning, I don't drive from one parking lot to another parking lot when I'm in the same strip mall.  I just walk it.  Even if I have to cross the street! LOL

After a while, these little habits become a little game for me.  Good luck to you,

  3. nothing really. 90% of my driving is to school and work.

So should i really cut down on 10% and make my life harder?

  4. Ok I am not Rich but We own a Truck and a car.  (we have 4 kids so we need a larger vehicle to take everyone)

We are lucky so far the gas prices havent really hit us. It is only 3.10 here.

We dont drive as much though. I dont go very far.  I get everything I need in one trip out to town.  I make a list so I dont forget things.

I also make sure that when I get down to a half a tank I fill up. That way I have a full tank. (better for your car also).

  5. just take out ALL unnecessary weight, if you dont have kids then unbolt the back seats if you dont drive that far, take the spare tire out and keep a can of fix a flat in the car, take anything out that you dont need, empty bottles, trash, bags, books, anything THAT YOU DONT NEED

i have done that and i got about 1.6mph better on my cars info screen

keep your tires inflated about 1-2 more then the manufacture recommends

this one doesnt do that much maybe helps 1%

wash wax (turtle wax ice) and polish (turtle wax ice)  your car, you'll be amazed by how much smoother your car will drive

dont fall for those people that say use higher octane gas that does not give you better mpg if anything it lowers it because higher octane burns better and faster

you could try using fuel injector cleaner but dont expect a magical  jump in your mpg

change your air filter many people dont realize that those get clogged very fast, they are sucking up air from in front of you car (leaves, trash, bags, ect. can get sucked up in there) i clean mine every month (i have an after market you may want to get one if your keeping your car for a long time i like Fram brand)

use cruise control every time you can

coast to stop lights, dont give it gas till you up to the light

dont keep tapping the brakes then giving it gas, even if your speeding a little its ok (as long as its not 10 over cops most of the time give a break)

thats all i can think of right now if i can think of anymore ill post it up here

  6. Just use your car sparingly, use only during important dealings, adjust our attitude in this time of austerity.
