  1. The fact is bio fuel is only one player behind several other factors including droughts and China's increased demand for better quality food and a world wide trend for migration to cities and away from farms.

  2. I think my favorite one so far is the statement by a representative of PETA who stated that the only sustainable human population for the world is less than 1 billion (global population is currently a little over 5 billion).  He did not say how we should get to that number, but maybe that's the goal of the people who behind bio-fuels who have started the food shortages and starvation.

  3. First of all bio fuels are not good for global warming.  This has never been proven.  They only count the carbon emissions of the fuel going into make the bio-fuel.  I have seen estimates from 40% to 120%.  It is most likely 60-70%.  So they say carbon is 60-70% of that of gasoline.  Thoeretically this is correct, however this neglects a few real world things,

    1.  In order to feed ourselves and provide the fuel we will have to grow the crops in harder areas to grow the food, this will require more total energy.

    2. If we cultivate new areas (would have to be done to have a viable effect), we must also count the carbon sequestered by the soil by the natural vegitation in the area we cultivate.  Kyotto counts this as a carbon sink, but it does not show up in this calculation.

    3.  The calculation neglects the other greenhouse gasses that are put into the atmosphere, CO, NOx, H20, hydrocarbons, that are by products of the reaction.

Each of these have a small effect, but combined they may actually be worse for the greenhouse effect.  I like using some ethonal to help regulate gas prices, and love biofuel ideas as conservation.  I just question the greenhouse reduction if you assume you can not cut into the existing animal and people food supply.

  4. Taxes with a capital T.

  5. I really wish I knew the answer to your question.

If we knew ahead of time what future lunatic and devastating plan was in the 'pipeline', we might be able to stop it before it becomes too late!
