You all have really good ideas. We don't eat out anymore and last week I completely stopped using my dryer. I am hoping the electric bill will be the same or less since we started using the A/C.

  1. I just don't go anywhere...drive very little

to and from work, the grocery store..and that's about it

I start my 4 day work week, June 16, however, I use the extra day off for medical/hair appts...so I won't really be saving gas.

  2. I drive a hybrid which helps alot, and I get paid mileage from work, so most of my gas pays for itself.  I do try and run errands, grocery shop, etc. on my way home from work so I am not making extra trips.  Also, have been packing lunch to take to work rather than eating fast food everyday, so that my cash can go for gas instead.

  3. I try to avoid unnecessary trips, I'm eating in more and I avoid frivolous purchases.

  4. Since I live exclusively on a small Social Security pension I have decided to do my part by living on a cup of oatmeal and one hard boiled egg a day...... and I walk...

  5. I've been driving as little as possible, only here and there. which is why I'm on here answering questions b/c I'm bored at home! lol :o) Hopefully it will be fixed soon but somehow I doubt it. :o(

  6. I cut my driver's salary

  7. Although I'm not the driver, my daughter is, and there are NO areas to save money in the budget, but she gets tips and uses these toward gas.

Otherwise it's borrow from the boss then pay back ,week to week

  8. People really need to stop complaining about how the gas prices are SOOO high. Go over to Europe, the average gas price over there is like 10 American dollars. You are getting a huge bargain here.

  9. coupons for groceries, cut way down on things like going to the movies, started a garden, I have a family of 6 so its been rough.

  10. walk when ever possible, its good to get that little extra amount of activity in and its free. also when your about to spend money think if its something you need or want, and if its just something you want...think if its worth it right now before just buying it. little things like that end up saving a lot of money by the end of the month.

  11. No I bike or walk, I wont drive unless i am going somewhere more tahn 10 miles away or i cant carry it.

  12. I have begun walking anywhere less than 5 miles. I have reduced my entertainment budget. I am conserving energy at home to save money on my utilities.

  13. Tiny K-

Europe's price is irrelevant.  Ratio of car ownership there is about 2/3 of what it is here in the US.  Therefore the gas burden is lower than it is here.

Additionally, only 20% of US residents have access to adequate public transportation, while europe has an extensive PT system availabe to a larger percentage of people.

  14. I used to have to pay for gas, lived 2 miles from work. But thats not a problem anymore. I got promoted and now I work 49 miles away, and they now pay for my gas.

So my gas is now free.

  15. We hardly ever eat out anymore. We are more frugal at the grocery store too. We used to go to the theater once a week, now we don't. The gas prices are effecting EVERYTHING>>> food costs more, clothes cost more, yet our wages remain the same. Better hope whoever becomes the new President has the guts to stop this insanity and give America back it's FREEDOM.

  16. Eating is so overrated.

  17. I admit I haven't readjusted my budget for the increased gas prices.  I was never one to go out driving just for the sake of driving.  What we're trying to do at work is get them to allow us to work 4-day weeks (same # of hours/week) to save on one day's commuting costs.  So far, we're getting nowhere.
