Question:

With the lack of Goalies in the UFA pool......?

Since Huet is the only reasonable goalie that is set to be a UFA, and all signs point to him resigning with the Caps my question is this: Which goalies do you see being TRADED this off season? Emery's the obvious choice, but after him I see Boston getting rid of one of their goalies most likely Fernandez.

Who do you think?

  1. I don't understand when people talk about this lack of goalies in the free agents pool. There's Cristobal Huet, then there's also Dan Ellis, who is a UFA, and I think he's shown that he is one h**l of a goalie. Then there's Ilya Bryzgalov, another UFA, and he's also a more than capable starter. And you have some great young goalies like Marc-Andre Fleury, Pascal Leclaire, Kari Lehtonen, Jaroslav Halak, and Al Montoya as RFAs. The goalie market is not as empty as most people think it is.

As far as who gets traded, I would say Emery, I just don't think there's any way he's staying there. Fernandez is a good choice, but I think he's done. He might be a backup somewhere, but his days of being the starter are over in my opinion. Another goalie who is probably going to get traded is Peter Budaj, his name has been in the rumors for a while now. The Avs are supposedly very close to re-signing Theodore long term and if they do so, then they will most likely trade Budaj (and no, I'm not happy about that at ALL). At least that's what the Avs' main newspaper columnist says, according to his sources. A less obvious choice would be Roberto Luongo, I can see him getting traded. I highly doubt Vancouver will make the playoffs this year and I think Luongo has kind of worn out his welcome with the fans. I've seen the four games the Avs have played at Vancouver this past season, and he was booed pretty bad a couple of times after letting in bad goals. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Oh, when was Bryzgalov signed? I didn't hear anything about this, d**n, I wanted the Avs to get him.

And yeah, I'm sure it was boos, I even read an article somewhere about how Luongo probably doesn't want to stay in Vancouver anymore because he was constantly being blamed by the media for not playing up to expectations this season.

  2. Mike- Bryzgalov has been locked up by the Yotes. He's going nowhere. Fleury is going to arbitration if they can't make up a deal- meaning that he never hits the market, even with an offer sheet. He's guaranteed to be with the pens next year, if not by a mutually agreed on deal, one decreed by a judge.

Besides, most RFAs will be resigned, and if not, the offers will probably be matched.

Ellis and Huet are about it. And there's a good chance both resign.

Boston getting rid of Fernandez is a pretty strong possibility if you ask me.

  3. I think toronto might move one of there goalies, and i also see Nashville trading Mason if they resign Ellis. plus, there is always that outside shot that Miller gets traded to the Wings.

  4. Kolzig is still out there and would make a serviceable backup.  Of the RFA's the only one I could have seen getting an offer sheet is Fleury.  Arbitration is just a means for Pittsburgh to protect themselves, expect to see him sign before the arbitration hearing.

Mike, has Jose signed in Colorado yet?  He is a UFA.

Ty Conklin may attract some interest.

The question is who needs a goalie bad?  How many teams will be looking for a F/A goalie?
