Question:

With the mail carrier or postal office put a sent date on my letter of the exact day I put it in the mail?

I need to send some summer work to my teacher and it is due tomorrow. She said that she doesn't count it late if it arrives late, only if the send date is past July 18th. I'm still working on it, but I can put it in my mail box tomorrow before the mail carrier arrives. In this case, will my letter read the sent date of July 18, 2008 and not some later date when they process it?

  1. If you don't mail it directly at the post office yourself the mail carrier pickup could have the next day's date stamped if s/he turns it in at the post offic for you after a certain time of the day.

  2. Unless you live in a remote rural area, mail is usually dated on the same day as it is posted.

  3. Take it to the post office and have them post mark it when you arrive. Then your date is guaranteed.
