The Superdome should never have been used as a shelter, including and maybe especially for Katrina.  It's a building without windows and was designed to only be occupied if the a/c is on. One of the first things that happened during Katrina was the power went off and with it went the a/c.  Conditions inside the Dome quickly became very unpleasant, and became worse when the water system failed.

The only reason it was chosen in 2005 was because the specifications for the building were that it be able to withstand winds of 200mph. That part turned out to be true, and the people inside the SD were protected from the storm even if the environment was unpleasant.

There were many news stories reporting murders, rapes of children, and gun battles in the Superdome. In reality, there were NO murders, NO rapes of children, and NO gun battles in the Superdome. There was plenty of bad news - I don't know why the media had to make stuff up.

This time the government has made arrangments for shelters well outside the storm-threatened area AND provided transportation for people who need to use the shelters.  Those factors were not in place for Katrina.

They don't want to encourage people to stay in New Orleans.  Opening the Superdome up would encourage people to stay.

Ummm...did you happen to watch ANY Katrina coverage??? The reason the superdome isnt being used as a shelter is because people need to get the h**l out of New Orleans, not flock to a foodball field. The Superdome is NOT a safe place. No shelters will be found ANYWHERE in LA south of Alexandria. Its not safe enough. It obviosuly didnt work last time so why would they do it again?

Why does it matter? New Orleans will get hit, they will complain even though they were warned, Jindal, Bush and FEMA will be criticized, celebrities will come to the 'rescue', singers will profit of off the disaster, and people will say they changed because they helped rebuild the city even though all they did was shake a victim's hand and walk around on debris. And if we are really lucky, Kanye West will give us his two cents.

The last time they  used the Superdome it was a debacle..the Superdome was trashed..this time Governor Jindal has  started evacuations and they are telling people to get out..Obviously we see what happened last time people stayed.

Because of the way the gorillas and apes acted the last time. Rapes, thefts, vandalism, and other criminal activity went on. The owners of the superdome have now said no. I don't blame them one bit.
