with manny batting behind him, that's a 1-2 punch that would scare any pitcher.....no disrespect to jason bay or mike lowell, but dont you think ortiz will get pitched around more without the cushion of ramirez behind him

  1. Definitely.

Shoot, I was always hoping the Yanks would just walk Ortiz all the time and face Manny. But without Manny there, I'd definitely walk him.

Or hit him. No disrespect but shoot, they just let Ortiz get too d**n comfortable in that batter's box. He needs to be put off balance a bit.

  2. I don't see pitchers salivating saying, "Lets pitch to Bay because he can't hit."  Bay is no Manny, but he is no bum either.

    Bay's stats in 393 AB

    .282 BA with 72 RUNS and 64 RBI, 47 XBH, .519 SLG

    Manny's stats in 365 AB

    .299 BA with 66 RUNS and 68 RBI, 43 XBH, .590 SLG

  3. Well i dont think that everytime he steps up hes going to get walked but...yea it wont be the same without Manny Ramirez there. But Jason Bay might be able to help.

  4. Ya, great point because just say in the 9th Ortiz gets a base hit so then Manny up, they put a pinch runner on like CoCo or Cora and then the pitcher is mad about giving up the base hit throw a hanger to Manny, Gapper, and thats your ballgame, but now in the ninth the can walk Papi and think about gett a double play or pop fly, so i think Ortiz will be out by the time his contract is up.

  5. Yep. Papi will be be hurting....

Jason Bay is NOT a cleanup hitter in the AL. Expect a lot of walks for Ortiz - and if he begins to become impatient at the plate, the Red Sox will miss the playoffs...

  6. Poor Jason Bay.He was stuck in a small market team like the Pirates for so long that no one ever realized what an incredible talent he really is.Here is a guy who hits 30+hr a year 100+rbis and average close to 300 consistantly.I also forget he steals 20-25 bases a year.So what will happen to Ortiz?Did you ever what will happen to Bay.Here is a guy that will fianally have hitters around him a more chances at RBIs.I dont think Ortiz will lose out and I think Boston will gain. They are not just settleing for Bay they are getting a talent who unlike Manny has a good attitude, does'nt get hurt and plays with passion for the game. Before all of you worry aboout how this will hurt the Sox just wait and see how much it will help. The Sox now have a team player who can hit run and field with a great attitude.Something they didnt get out of Manny.Just wait and see.

  7. no doubt about it, David Ortiz will definitely get less pitches to hit until Bay, Lowell, or Drew step up and put fear into the opposing pitcher.  Manny may be a cancer to the clubhouse, but offensively he was a beast that will be missed in the middle of that lineup, and unfortunately yes Ortiz will feel it the most

  8. ahhhh Yeah. Who really has been scared to face jason bay. Manny is goin to the hall of fame, Bay probably not. Nobody in the red sox lineup can hit like manny. Ortiz doesnt have his best friend on the team which could make him mad at the team and not try as hard. This red sox team is goin to be the most boring red sox team in a while.

I used to be a die hard red sox fan until 7/31/08, now i couldn't really careless

  9. This won't effect Ortiz as much as you think, it's not that often Ortiz comes up to bat with no one on base. And if they do pitch around Ortiz it will only help the Red Sox cause. Jason Bay, Mike Lowell and Drew have all proven to be dangerous hitters.

  10. Boston u got a steal with Bay, its sad to see him leave! But I cant stand the yankees so lets go Boston! Coming from a Pirates fan!!!!!
