With today transportation issues --isnt the train or could the train make a comeback?

The train will not make a comeback. It's too slow. More money will be poured into making jets more economical. Society is at the point where people want things right now and can't wait. A train is too long of a wait. There also isn't enough infrastructure to support passenger handling on a large scale. Most of the railways are devoted to cargo.

I travel often on the awful M3, M25, M1, route, it is appalling. It costs me about £20 to get from A-B in the car. If I use the train it costs me £56, imagine if there are two of us in the car, or worse still four of us. Add to that the thought that I might not get a seat for that £56, why would I put myself through the hassle, leave the train at Waterloo, lug my luggage down the underground, tube to Leicester square, up more steps then  down some more, (with suitcase). Tube to Kings X. Up more steps, across station then another train. I am worn out even thinking about it. Its easier sat in the car park that is the M25

Trains are becoming faster and more fuel efficient and will take you to city/town centers. Air travel is becoming a long process with airport security becoming a significant factor in increasing journey time. Cars will offer poorer options for cities and its inevitable road pricing and congestion charging will grow increasing the cost of road transport. Fuel is also likely to increase the cost of road transport as we know it today. So I say yes, rail has a bight future.

Hard to say.  Trains are extremely fuel efficient, but the railroads have all consolidated into monopolies or become government beauracracies, depending on where you live.

So you might say the race is on between fuel efficiency and bloated incompetence.  Time will tell.

Some trains id think. The big diesel passenger trains actually use more fuel per passenger then people driving cars. I heard about that study on a episode of top gear. My city has a Lite rail it works for those who want to use it and they do. Heres a link to that same study i believe. But i should say in a larger city lite rail is just about required and at many times of the day much faster then driving and much less stressful i would hope.

The train is already making a comeback. Here in the UK more passengers are being carried than were carried 60 years ago, in 1947, when there were considerably more lines and stations. Airlines have already cut back on flights to Paris and Belgium as the Eurostar service is far quicker - no need to drive out of the city centre, check in an hour before your flight is due to depart etc.

the train will definite be a growth transport sector in coming years as speeds increase and delivery points are more effective than air. Rail will provide a definite completion to flying for distances up to 500 miles. The flying option with extra security measures is and green concerns is going to decline. Driving will stagnate or even delcine as road are clogged, fuel prices will quadruple in the next decade and car drivers will become pariahs of the environmentalists.
