If travelling with one parent to a destination and then as unaccompanied minor status on return flight home is it mandatory for both parents to sign the form or is it okay for just the parent that they travelled to the destination with? Thank you

  1. I work for AA and check in unaccompanied minors often. One adult must be present during check in for the unaccompanied minor, at which time that adult fills out a form stating the name of the adult accepting responsibility for and meeting the minor at the final destination. Neither of these adults need to be the parent. Often people accompanying UMNRs (as we refer to them in the airline industry) are aunts, uncles, grandparents, sisters, camp counselors, etc.

The same process applies to the return flight. The most important part of the process is that whomever name is stated on the paperwork (filled out during the check in process) is MUST be there at the airport in the destination city with a valid photo ID. So neither parent needs to be there, let alone one. This applies to any destination, including international UNLESS the international destination's IMMIGRATION department requires additional paperwork from parents (which is extremely rare).

So no parents, just an adults need to accompany you at check in and arrival.

    Hope this helps

  2. ONE is fine if it is a domestic trip.  Only if the minor is travelling outside the U.S. does he need signed permission from both parents.  The unaccompanied minor status only involves the airline, not  the law.   The parent just needs to make the unaccompanied minor arrangements with the airline.

  3. both parents on there birth cert have to sign agreeing that

they know the child is travelling alone
