Black tux is the only way to go for a wedding.

My nephew wore a white tux and as handsome as he is, a black one would have been better - classier and classic.

A white tux isn't as great an idea as it sounds.

First, white is pretty stark looking for a lot of men.  

Second, chances of it getting dity are higher than with a dark colour.  

Third, it can really date your wedding when looking at pictures.

Fourth, almost every man ends up looking like The Man From Glad in a white tux.

Go with black, dark grey or medium grey instead.  Much safer and more elegant.

Are you wearing white? If not, he would stick out like a sore thumb. Not to mention being worried about getting the white tux dirty all day long.

When I got married I wore an ivory gown and my husband wore a black tux with tails. The other two groomsmen wore black tux as well,but without the tails.

the white would not be over the top as you say, but will make anyone wearing ivory look like there stuff is dirty....i would have have him wear black or ivory

I think black in this case would be more elegant.  With white and the pastel colors he'll look like an ice cream man.

I personally wouldn't pick a white tux, especially if one of your colors is ivory.  I think it would look a bit odd.

I think a black tux would be more becoming.  Get their ties in one (or two) of the other colors and it will all come together nicely.
