Question:

Withdrawal bleeding or a period?

I stopped taking the pill a few days ago, in the middle of the pack. I started spotting, and there were some very dark clots, but I haven't really had any bright red blood. It's never been enough to fill a pad. I'm wondering: do you think this is just withdrawal bleeding from the pill, or a real period? It's important because if it's a period, it means I would have ovulated (which I don't think I did).

  1. My guess is a withdrawl bleed.  But, this might be great time for you to start tracking your cycles for future reference.  :-)

  2. This looks to me as though it's a withdrawal bleed. If you have been taking your pills up until now as prescribed, you wouldn't have ovulated as the hormones are supressed when taking the contraceptive pill, preventing the egg being released. Of course, if you did miss pills here and there up until now or have been taking antibiotics or other medication to interfere with its properties, you may have ovulated. Only you will know this.

Spotting in between periods, especially when stopping the pill, is completely normal. You would class your "period" as the next one you have, off of the pill. Just a little advice - it may take slightly longer to come back as the hormones will need to balance out a bit. I stopped mine on the 21st July and am still to have my period!

  3. Sounds like a withdrawal bleed

  4. it will most likely be withdrawal bleed
