Hi i'm travelling to south East asia in September for a month and half and was wondering what the best method of withdrawing money would be. I'm taking travellers cheques and will carry no more than $150.

  1. Dude, ATM cards work great.  You might as well leave the traveller's checks at home, they are a bit of an outdated way to carry money since ATMs are everywhere.

I also would carry a bit (not much) more cash.  If you are somewhere without ATMs, the odds of someone accepting travellers checks in a foreign currency (assuming you won't have them in Rupiah, Ringit, Dong, etc) are also slim.

  2. Take travellers cheques as a standby, but use the ATM machines remember your bank will charge you for the transaction so be prepared to pay for the service.

Try not to carry too much cash at any one time as it gets stolen or people know where you have hidden it.

DO NOT USE CREDIT CARDS IN ASIA FRAUD IS RIFE they use the old paper method not chip & pin so it is wide open to fraud. Enjoy the trip and stay safe.

  3. Depends on the country I guess.  All I can say is Thailand has ATM's all over the place, and they work well. If you're going to Cambodia, they are really hard to find. Take travellers cheques if you're going to that country.....
