Withdrawls of Lexapro or what?

Question

I've been on 20mg depressant lexapro for about 4-5 months now, and I talked to my Dr. to quit and he told me to take 10mg for a week then quit. Well I have done that and now I've been having headaches everyday, now I'm having dizziness, along with fatigue.. All day today I've felt weird, If I moved the room was spinning, I had a headache all day as well... Has anyone experienced any type of with drawls from lexapro that has these symptoms ? If I keep feeling this way I will contact my Dr.... I don't wanna be on anymore ADs. Yea, also tonight I been experiencing some nausea...Please if anyone knows anything please tell...

I have been on 10 mg of Lexapro for approximately 2 years.  I tried to wean myself several times but couldn't get past the brain surges and dizziness.  Today it has been about 2 weeks since I quit and I feel horrible.  I know that I never felt this bad before I started taking it, so I just keep hoping that it will eventually go away.  Lexapro worked for me awhile, but then the benefits seem to vanish and I started feeling depressed.  I also would like to get back to the way I used to be just to measure my ordinary mental health.  My doctor said that I must be overly sensitive to it, but based on what I've read tonight, it is not that uncommong to experience what you and I are both feeling.  I would love to read more information that you find useful.  Cheryl

I'll just about guarantee you're going through withdrawals.  To prove it, just take one Lexapro and see if the problems go away.



I think the doctor got you off the Lexapro a little too quickly, you need to wean a lot more slowly than they suggested.



To get off Lexapro, wean yourself to the lowest dose (5mg).  If you're on 20mg, cut them in half (to get 10mg) and take those for a couple weeks, then go to the 5mg pills.



After you've been on the 5mg pills for a couple weeks, cut them in half (use a pill cutter for that) and take the half-pills for a couple weeks, then take the half-pills every other day for a couple weeks, then you can stop.  This will slowly remove the Lexapro from your system, and help eliminate the possibility of withdrawal problems.

Sounds like withdrawal. Call your doctor--you withdrew too quickly. You've got to taper off more slowly.

It's withdrawal. I would start taking the 10 mg again - I'm surprised he only had you take the 10mg for 1 week - I would suggest 10 mg for at least 2 weeks, then if you feel okay I'd break them in half and take 5mg for 2 weeks, then if you feel okay try stopping all together. It's fine to be ready to go off of the medication you just have to do it much slower.

well to be completely honest with u im withdrawing from 20mg of lexapro myself not because i want off im out of meds n have lost my job n insurance. i get the headaches and the weird dizziness and i also get the shocking feeling, meaning if i look left or right up or down turn my head or make a sudden natural movement i feel a slight shocking/tingling feeling. i also experience thepins n needles feelings in my chin n cheeks. i can tell u if u have any leftover meds take 2 10mg pills and maintain 7-8 days at 5 mg. that should ween u off better, lexapro id say is by far the easiest to get off of paxil and zoloft liked to killed me.

That sounds like "discontinuation syndrome"  I had it from paxil.  I vomited and was really anxious.  I had diarrhea.  People also have weird feelings in their heads sometimes.

If it really becomes bothersome you might want to talk to your doctor about a slower taper.

It does end, but it feels like h**l during the withdrawl.  It took me 3 tries to get off paxil.  I kept going back on it to avoid the withdrawls.
