Hey.

My husband and I are in Germany and we withdrew 100 Euros about 10 days ago. Ever since then we keep getting international fees on our debit card. A couple of the fees are $18 and $14 dollars! The others are around $4. What's going on? When do the fees end? I can't believe we are still getting charged 10 days later from 1 ATM withdraw. Is this normal?

  1. You will have to contact your bank and ask them to explain the fees.

  2. Usually when you purchase something or withdraw internationally you will be charged fees from the bank/visa/mastercard. I'm not sure if the charges are the same throughout the bank but I'm pretty sure it is a standard fee set by visa/mastercard. I know visa is 3% transaction fee for every debit card purchase, 1% transaction fee for every ATM withdrawl and also a fee for withdrawing from an ATM that is not your banks. Some banks, like Bank of America, have affiliate banks that you can avoid the fees on some foreign ATM's but the transaction fees are usually pretty standard.
