Withered flowers?

What can one do to roses that have almost withered in order to keep them alive, or in a good condition?

  1. I assume you are speaking of a rose bush....

    Are they wilted? Roses need about an inch of water per week. If they've gone without water that could be the problem. If they've had water, but are still wilted they could have root rot or something could be eating the roots. :(

    Also roses need about 6 hours of sunlight daily. Make sure they have enough sun. And morning sun is better than afternoon sun.

    Check the base of the plant. You could dig it up and put it in fresh potting soil, but often once the roots have rotted the only solution is to throw away the plant-Not in the compost pile (because it could contaminate the pile.) Throw it in the trash bin.

    Hope it just needs water. :)

    If you're referring to cut flowers you can re-cut the stems (under water, at an angle, with a sharp blade) and put them in fresh water and a clean vase along with some flower or plant food. That might extend the life a bit.

    Or hang them upside down to dry and make a dried floral arrangement to enjoy!
