Withheld Numbers?

The phone rings every 2 or 3 mins...

It rings twice and goes off or when you answer it they will disconnect.

This keeps occurring and still is ringing for the 10th time.

What should I do?

  1. It`s some automated call centre in the middle of Asia. They ring about 1,000 numbers simultaneously and the first certain percentage that answer get harrassed into some sales patter. If you don`t answer, it rings off.

Unfortunately joining the telephone preference service will not bar these calls

After a few days thet should stop.

  2. Hi,

Wow that must be frustrating, in the 1st instance get the line checked if with BT then 0800 800 151 will do this for you. If no line fault is found, then I would call the nuisance call centre (again if BT 0800 800 150 will put you through).

In the 1st instance they will offer to change you number free, or you could opt for the service choose to refuse, this allows you to block callers from ringing you, you can block withheld - but then all withheld numbers will be barred.

If you opt for the change of number make sure it goes ex directory and also join the Telephone Preference Scheme, it will cut down on the number of "sales" call you get.

    I hope this helps you?

  3. if ur with BT they do a service where u can choose not to receive withheld calls  they charge for it but its not very expensive

  4. Report it to your landline provider then the Police.  They can put a trace on your line.

  5. What may be happening, according to BT when i had the same problem, is that these companies that do market research etc by telephone load a lot of random numbers into a computer & the darn thing then rings these numbers but if the call centre operatives are busy they do not bother to answer the 'phone when you pick up the receiver, hence you think you are getting hoax calls. You can remedy this by opying into BTs no withheld numbers scheme but of course it cost's & if you have friends etc on a withheld number they will not be able to reach you. Hope this helps. That should be 'opting' not 'opying' duh!!

  6. FILE A POLICE REPORT. Then go to your phone co and ask for the annoyance dept.  They should be able to put a stop to it.

  7. report it to your telephone service provider they should be able to help.

if someone is making prank calls to you then what i would do is disconnect your phone for a few hrs it may put them off calling you

  8. I was told when this happened to me that it was either prank calls or sales as they use a computer to ring numbers at random who ever answers first it disconnects the rest.

ring the company your with and get it sorted.
