  1. What were the circumstances of each - most murders involve the victim knowing the killer as a relative or acquaintance.  As the first answer says, use some judgement.

  2. Since I watch TruTV a lot with all its criminal investigation files, I suggest that you inform yourself about those crimes. There might be a serial killer at large. To find out, watch the news and see what the police says. Serial killers almost always start their sprees around their home where they are most familiar with the area. As they "succeed", they "work" their way out and become also more careless about the evidence they'd leave behind.

Best for you and your safety, find out what type(s) of victims were chosen, that way you'll know if you're in danger.

Also make sure you're not alone all the time. Altogether, it will be just a matter of time until this is solved, since forensic science these days is just amazing.

  3. Small rural community of 25 people or if all the victims fit your description...perhaps...but crime happens everywhere.  You can move to a place that statistically has less murders, but violent crime (excluding murder) and non-violent crime may be high.

I live in a major city and know that there were at least 3 murders/violent crimes within a month and 5-10 miles of where I live.  Using common sense when traveling alone at night and making sure to lock doors is as much thought as most people put into the statistics.

If you decide to move, check some of the free state databases and federal databases to see crime statistics for your new area.  The state sites will help you focus at least on a county level.  Below is a link that allows you to compare cities and ranks the level of violent and property crime on a scale from 1-10.

Good luck with your decision and be safe!
