i am looking for hostel of low cost hotel accomodation in paris for christmas. i know the districts go upto around 18(?) EME. I want to be central enough to be able to not have to catch extensive transportation. if i can even walk to some of the landmarks, that'd be great. safety is also important.

where do you recommend?

  1. We just stayed at this hotel.  It was a little farther out, but still in a touristy area. We just took the metro (subway).

  2. The 4th, 5th, or 6th arrondissements are the best followed by the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 7th.

Any of the hostels listed on this website are reliable: http://www.cheaphostel.com/

As an alternative to a hostel you might look into the Hotel Tiquetonne at 6 rue Tiquetonne in the 2nd arrondissement where a single room with shared facilities costs only 30 euros a night.

  3. Most districts are safe ... I lived on the 11th between Bastille and Nation which was safe and very central. The latin quarters and the Opera are also very convinient.

  4. near of the Grands Boulevards (Boulevard Haussmann...) you'll find little hostels not too expensive, that's in the downtown, and very safety. But don't forget that low cost in paris doesn't really exist...

    enjoy your trip!
