  1. This may not be an answer, but it might be worth your time reading Freud's, "Future of an Illusion".

  2. No, and I have one degree in psychology but it isn't helping me to answer this question. Spiritual experiences can be real. Let's separate the mentally disturbed from those who sincerely know and worship God though.

I have not necessarily been a religious person but I have had experiences with God. The only thing I can think is that those who do not believe in them, have to invite God into their lives and they will too. I doubt God will not be where he is not wanted.

I have never experimented with anything and all I can tell you is God is real. I now attend a church that worships God (Meadowbrook Church in Ocala Florida) and I can feel it stronger when I am in worship of God with others who worship him.

What one may think of as tears just pour out of one's eyes but it is the Holy Spirit. I didn't understand it when it first happened but now I have been worshipping and getting closer to God and I understand real meaning to life.

  3. No one believed that there was a man living in a cloud until a religious belief told them. If religion said that it was puppy-dog, you'd see many people with a dog on a chain around their neck. Brainwashing (although some only need a slight rinse) plays a part.
