Any one in the boat or have a general idea. I will be 24 with a diploma in policing, a BA in criminology and some internship work in these areas. I will just have graduated from uni in Toronto, so it will be me starting off my career. Just wondering what i am likely to make with these qualifications. And will this be able to support me until i earned more, also what is are the raises like. Further, what kind a job other than policing would be interested in me.

  1. England = Very small.

    London = Very expensive.

    Policework = Start at the bottom and go through training acadamy; even graduates. So salary isn't great.

    Is there nothing better where you are?

  2. In police or security you earn maybe Canadian $ 40,000. Starting salary in finance or law Canadian $ 150,000. BSc in economics, hard science, languages CAN get you a good job. Criminolgy ??  You need experience in business. London has 500,000 highly educated East Europeans plus any London job attracts cream of EU applicants. Mainstream business professional earns Canadian $ 250,000 upwards.

  3. I'm sorry to tell you that the qualifications you have are of virtually no value in the UK as we have a unique legal system here unlike that in any other country, you may be able to do a conversion course (eg. to law).  The police service here run their own training programme, no prior qualifications are necessary.  The link below may help you.  Salary starts at £19,000 - I only mentioned law as an example of a conversion course as that's what I did and you asked about other jobs that may be relevant to you.  There are conversion courses in other subject areas also but Law is the only other real career option here for criminology graduates.  People interested in criminal justice generally become legal aid lawyers, there is no other relevant occupation and the police service are not interested in social justice in the slightest!  Anything else here to do with social justice would be unpaid voluntary work for one of the millions of charaties.  You'd need to do a Doctorate here in the relevant subject area to be able work in psychology etc. There are just so many people now who go well beyond graduate level education.

  4. there is quite a lot of jobs in London at the minute,my dads fem have just received a lot of work to do with 2012 Olympics,if you are into construction work there is loads of work,pay is quite good to,My dads firm had quite a bit to do with the wembley stadium, which end result is brill.
