two great fighters, despite a poor fight against Igragimov,Klitchco is,in my opinion,an superb athlete and boxer.Holmes was also a great boxer, but how would he fare against an in form Klitchco if they were both fighting today?I believe Larry's performance against an average boxer Like Cooney may be an indicator as to the result, what do you reckon?

  1. to random hero:

how the heck could a giant chump lose to a 37-year old journey man in correy sanders?

wake up lame dog, your man has zero chin..

barrera can beat him anytime if they were in the same division.

  2. First, I think Klitschko is better now than he was in 2005.  Naturally people think of Holmes vs Cooney.  Klitschko is better than Cooney in nearly every way so it stands to reason he would do better than Cooney, right?  Wrong.

Larry Holmes is the near perfect Heavyweight.  He ranks just below Ali and Louis and very high among the rest.  In some ways he's in a class by himself.   He's tough enough and fast enough to take on the Big Bangers.   He's also quick enough and smart enough to take on the Slicksters.

Although Prime ALi would decision Holmes, Larry would beat nearly everyone Ali could beat but easier in most cases.   Joe Louis is the exception to the rule here.

Wladamir Klitschko, like Lennox Lewis, has a LOT of power.  However, also like Lewis, he's a careful fighter and doesnt use his power to its fullest.  I dare say that Lennox Lewis is POTENTIALLY one of the hardest punchers in division history.  George is the Hardest and since Lennox' career is over its hard to say where he COULD have placed.   He's certainly up there.

Larry would survive any early rounds assult from Wladamir because WK would fight too carefully.  Larry would hurt him early.  Although Klitschko is better than Cooney he would not survive as long as Cooney did.  Knowing WK has been stopped before is all Holmes would really need.  Had he never been stopped Holmes would simply be the first.

Like I said,  Larry could beat anyone Ali could beat but easier.  He just cant beat Ali or Louis.   He would beat all the rest including Klitschko.

After a failed attempt to match jabs with Holmes,  Klitschko catches a hard right to the jaw in round 7.  He staggers about the ring with Holmes in persuit.  Holmes wasnt the finisher Louis was.  Nobody finished them better than Louis.  Klitschko gets off the hook once during the match.

He fights very carefully afterwards, which costs him.  Larry knows he can hurt him.  ITs only a matter of time.   One more round

    Holmes by KO in 8

  3. Larry Holmes slices and dices the big Euro with sharp jabs and good footwork.  He'll movecounter clockwise to negate WK's big right, and once into the middle rounds, start to slug it out to force a late TKO on cuts.  Over time, we've seem to lost perspective on just how much faster a guy like Holmes was, and it would give WK all kinds of fits even finding the Easton Assassin, let alone landing a meaningful punch.  The big Euro is just way too slow, he gets away with it now because there aren't any fast guys around.

  4. Thumbs up to Elmer & chris.

Klitschko isn't in holmes's league. The heavyweight division isn't very good right now. Wlad has zero head movement and little footwork. He's stiff and robotic.

    Holmes wins pretty easy.

  5. klitschko would win. who did larry holmes beat? some bums so it made him look good.

what does klitschko have to do to earn everyones credit?

he has the highest knockout percentage of any boxer with 88% KOs.

  6. I take it your new to boxing.

Well first let me begin by telling you Larry Holmes would make Klitschko and every other heavyweight out there at the moment look like a lost kid crying for there mummy.

As it goes i agree with Chris and Elmer and think that weather the Easton Assassin wanted to box or slug it out he would be victorious in either.

  7. Well I promised myself I would never answer a Dr. Lamehammer vs. anyone question but earlier tonite I was watching Holmes vs. Shavers with my dad and lo and behold I come on here and theres a question from a friend about a dream matchup! I hear the twilight zone theme playing. lol

As far as Holmes credentials go, he like the greats b4 and after him fought and beat everyone in his division. When I was a kid Holmes was never really held in high regard by most. The shadow of Ali was always hanging over him. Now when I look at the punches he took and the piston like jab and straight right he threw I am amazed! He certainly would not have to worry about anything ''Wlad the boring'' would throw at him, it would be Klitschko pawing and poking for survival. Granted Wlad could probably beat anyone out there now which says alot about the division. But against Holmes he would make his fight with Ibragimov look like Hagler - Hearns!!

First stiff jab Holmes would land I guarantee would buckle his knees. If Sam Peter could knock him down 3 times what would a prime hungry fighter with a jackhammer of a jab a devasting right and a solid chin like Holmes do?

This fight goes one of 2 ways, Holmes chases Wlad all night for a decision or knocks Dr. Weiniehammer out early.

For those who critique Holmes watch his fights with Shavers, Norton, Snipes, Smith, and Cooney to see a boxing technition as well as an underrated warrior.

Wlad couldn't carry Holmes jockstrap!! lol

  8. This is an insult to the great Larry Holmes.

Holmes would have the option of out boxing Klitschko or going for the knockout depending on what mood he was in.

Either way you will get the same result and thats an easy win for Holmes.

  9. Klithcko look at my name and you will know why

  10. holmes would control the fight and stop vlad by the 10th round.

  11. Holmes wins big.  I'm a little mystified by all the Klitchco lovers out there.  He has so many flaws.  He is the best of a sorry lot of undisciplined heavyweights.  He does not rate with fighters like Larry Holmes.
