Wladimir Klitschko: I will definitely not underestimate Tony Thompson – Boxing News
Wladimir Klitschko, the IBF, WBO, IBO, WBA super world heavyweight champion, recently shared his thoughts about his upcoming opponent, Tony Thompson, saying that he will not underestimate the American southpaw and he will put up a flawless fight against
him.
Tony and Wladimir are scheduled to enter in a 12-round showdown which will take place on July 7, 2012. The ring for the high-profile heavyweight clash will be set up at Stade de Suisse arena situated in Berne, Switzerland and the bout will be a rematch of
July 2008 bout.
The Ukrainian pounder Wladimir has been in a total 60 bouts and boasts 57 wins. He recently collected his 50th knockout win by nailing Jean-Marc Mormeck in just the fourth round of the 12-round battle.
Widely known as the ‘Dr. Steelhammer’, Wladimir is unanimously known as one of the best heavyweights in the world who has been ruling the division quite impressively since 2006.
The duo recently met at the promotional press conference and shared their thoughts about the upcoming extravaganza. Wladimir’s Saturday night opponent Tony, 40, has been in a total 38 bouts and emerged victorious in 36.
He has collected 24 of his wins by knocking the opponent out cold and recently received his second career loss from none other than Wladimir Klitschko. Thompson, also known as ‘The Tiger’, is considered as a man who has given most probably the toughest time
to Wladimir in the ring.
During the press conference, Tony shared his resolve that he will not give Wladimir a chance to overcome him since he has learned much from his last bout and has strived hard to correct his mistakes.
The confident Thompson added that he will be the first ever heavyweight boxer to grab the heavyweight title at the age of 40. The southpaw Thompson remarked, “[The first defeat] was a valuable lesson for me. This can be a disadvantage for Wladimir. I will
be the first heavyweight boxer to become a world champion at over 40 years of age.”
On the other hand, Wladimir, commented that since Thompson has been sparring with him therefore he has a slight upper hand, the reason why the Ukrainian proud will not underestimate Tony.
The world number one heavyweight stated, “So far I’ve been better in every rematch than I was in the first fight. Still I can’t become careless because through many rounds of sparring, Thompson knows me better than every other opponent.”
Wladimir will put all his four titles on the line and Tony will try extremely hard to not only avenge his last loss to Klitschko but also strengthen his five-bout win streak.
