Wladimir Klitschko: I will nail Tony Thompson the same way as I did in 2008 – Boxing News
Wladimir Klitschko, the current WBA super world, IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight champion, recently vowed to put forth an epic performance, saying that he will obliterate Tony Thompson the same way as he did almost four years back. He added that he was the
better man back then in fact has become much more better now than before.
Wladimir and Tony are set to for a sequel to their 2008 clash, which mesmerised the whole boxing universe. The duo will meet in the ring stretched at Stade de Suisse situated in Berne, Switzerland on July 7, 2012.
Tony and Wladimir are considered as the best heavyweight pugilists, who have achieved feats that have made them quite invincible in the division. Tony, 40, has been in a total 38 bouts and emerged victorious in 36.
He has nailed 24 of his opponents by knockout and has proudly held not only the WBO Intercontinental heavyweight title but also the WBC Continental Americas heavyweight title as well.
Tony has evolved into a very tough, versatile and talented pugilist since his last loss to Wladimir in fact is on a five-bout win streak. Tony recently collected an authoritative third round knockout win over Maurice Harris and secured the number two spot
in the IBF heavyweight rankings.
Wladimir, on the other hand, is considered as a phenom in the division alongside his brother Vitali. Wladimir, 36, has been in a total 60 bouts and boasts 57 wins with 50 via knockout.
The proud Ukrainian has lost just three bouts in his career and has been defending his titles since 2005. During the recent press conference in which Wladimir officially announced the July 7th engagement, the ‘Steelhammer’ commented that he wants to put
forth an impressive and flawless performance in front of his fans so as to prove that he has become far better than before.
The world number one heavyweight pounder vowed that he will nail Tony in the same manner as he did so in 2008 adding that he has improved substantially and understands Tony’s stamina, resilience and the fact that he has also built himself a long win streak.
Wladimir remarked, “I’ve already knocked out Thompson four years ago. I promise to do it again. Remembering that fight with him for me it was an ordeal, Tony showed good boxing, but I was better. Four years later, I’ve gotten better.”
While sharing his thoughts on the fact that whether he wants to hang his gloves or not, Wladimir stated, “I feel the strength and motivation to be in professional boxing 3-4 more years. I think I can still improve my boxing and delight my millions of fans
all over Ukraine.”
The bout is already being dubbed as a prolific one since Tony is direly waiting to avenge his former loss and the way he has improved, it seems that he might make a difference but at the same time on the other side of the corner is a man who has obliterated
almost each and every man in the division. Therefore the battle will be a toe-to-toe one.
