Wladimir Klitschko and Emanuel Steward on Mormeck fight – Boxing News
Wladimir Klitschko, who is scheduled to defend his world title against Jean-Marc Mormeck, held an international press conference call along with his Hall of Fame trainer Emanuel Steward on Saturday. The purpose of this press conference was to discuss Klitschko’s
title defence against the two-time cruiserweight champion.
Klitschko, who has 56 (49 KOs) wins and 3 defeats in his portfolio, sounded a bit furious over the comments being made by most analysts that the fight is a total mismatch. Klitschko, furiously, iterated, “What I’m hearing around that it’s a mismatch and
the body size is so different, yes sizes matter, but in this case it doesn’t matter because to fight a shorter guy that is physically and automatically faster and lighter is not easy…to fight a shorter guy isn’t always an advantage.”
The IBF/WBO/WBA heavyweight champion further said that the fight is balanced since both the fighters have their strengths and weaknesses, and neither one is a mismatch for the other.
Emanuel Steward tried to explain the scenario by saying, “Everyone says it’s a total mismatch, but styles make fights and in fighting Mormeck we’re fighting a guy with a bob-and-weave type style that Wladimir hasn’t fought…it’s the most difficult style for
tall fighters.”
He further said that most experts are of the view that if the fight stretches to more than 3 or 4 rounds, it will be a terrible performance, adding that if Klitschko knocks Mormeck in a minute or two then that is what is supposed to happen and so this is
a no-win situation for him and his fighter.
The fight between Klitschko and Mormeck is overall being considered a mismatch since most experts are of the view that Klitschko is a way better and experienced fighter than the latter. The press conference call by Wladimir was meant to present an explanation,
which was that the fight is not a mismatch. However, just after four questions Wladimir decided to end the call, leaving most reporters in a panic. It was not sure whether Wladimir was offended by any of the questions or he said everything he wanted and ended
the call.
