Wladimir Klitschko beats Jean Marc Mormeck to retain title – Boxing News
Wladimir Klitschko was able to defend his WBA and IBF heavyweight titles against French challenger Jean-Marc Mormeck on Saturday night in Dusseldorf, Germany.
Klitschko, as always, played his power game in the ring to dominate his opponent, and it worked. Mormeck tried playing it smart but he failed. After a left-right combination from Klitschko followed by a short left, Mormeck hit the canvas. Even though he
was able the beat referee’s count, he still was staggering in the ring. Luis Pabon, referee, immediately stopped the fight and Klitschko was declared the winner.
It should be noted here that this knockout by Klitschko was his career’s 50th knockout. Before the fight, Klitschko had iterated that Mormeck would be tough to deal with, however analysts had already predicted that the latter does not have a chance
against Klitschko and he will not stay for more than four rounds, and so it happened.
After the fight, Klitschko, for his opponent’s strategy, said, “His strategy was to make me tired, but I dominated.” While Wladimir seemed happy, his opponent was frustrated, not because he lost but because he thought he could have last for at least another
round. Mormeck iterated, "I was frustrated, I could have continued."
Unfortunately, Mormeck did not seem good enough to stand against Wladimir. He was first knocked out in the second round but he managed to continue, however the fourth round knockout totally devastated him. Even though it appeared that Mormeck could not get
even a single hit on Wladimir, the latter confessed he got a jab near his eye. Wladimir said, “My eye is still stinging.”
This defeat marked Mormeck’s fifth defeat of his career while it added another win to Wladimir’s portfolio. As of now, Wladimir stands with 57 wins and 3 losses while Mormeck has 36 wins and 5 losses.
Last week, on Friday, Wladimir and his promoter had organised a press conference in order to brush aside ideas suggesting that Mormeck is a complete mismatch against Wladimir. However, the way Mormeck was defeated, one can easily say that he was no way a
competitor to Wladimir.
