Wladimir Klitschko likens himself to Michael Jackson
Apparently, Wladimir Klitschko is the MJ of professional boxing.
With MJ standing for Michael Jackson.
'Dr. Steelhammer' Klitschko drew the comparison when he said that he thinks more fans will take to him and appreciate his accomplishments when he retires.
"People get more respect after they are done in sport or music—just look at Michael Jackson. He was incredible, but he gained much more respect as an artist after he died."
Klitschko is gearing up for his December 11 bout against the untested Dereck Chisora, in which he will defend his WBO/IBF/IBO/Ring heavyweight titles.
Chisora (14-0, 9 KOs), though completely inexperienced with world class fighters, has received the respect of Klitschko, who said he will train just as hard for Chisora, because he considers him to be dangerous in ring.
"I definitely will not underestimate Chisora and will prepare myself as intensely as I always do and try to give Chisora no chance."
At a press conference for the fight, Chisora also managed to visibly upset Klitschko, earning a vow from the champion that he will 'paint' Chisora’s face when they fight.
Chisora’s alacrity to fight Klitschko is to be contrasted with WBA titlist David Haye’s obvious attempt to duck the Ukrainian fighter. Because both Chisora and Haye are British fighters, the move on Chisora’s side for the fight has earned him many local
fans.
Should Chisora defeat Klitschko, in a fight in which he’ll be the gross underdog, he is contractually locked into a second bout with older brother Vitali Klitschko, and possibly even another fight with Wladimir (if he beats Vitali).
Haye has said he rejected offers to fight the brothers due to contractual stipulations, such as being forced to fight them repeatedly in the event of winning.
