My JVC camera is plugged in the wall too so it isn't just on battery, I've successfully connected it to my Dell laptop (which is a very new version that I bought a few months ago) via 4 pin 4 pin lead. The camera is also in Play mode. I went on Windows Movie Maker and clicked "From the Digital Video Camera" and "Import Media" but I can't find it. So my laptop doesn't recognise my camera even though I've successfully put 4pin end into camera and the other 4pin end into "1394" input. Can anyone help?

  1. Don't worry, everything's working fine. Unfortunately, video from DV cameras actually need to be captured and can't just be dragged onto your hard drive as a file. On the left side of the screen where it says Movie Tasks and lists the 3 steps, click on Capture from Video Device under step one. Then depending on what you want to capture, you can capture the whole tape automatically, or do it manually. If you didn't use the whole tape or if you don't need everything that you taped, I would recommend using the manual mode because it saves on disk space (5 minutes=1 GB or about 13GB per tape). The controls are much like your camera controls. Just use them to rewind or fast forward then click start capture. Hope this helps!
