Did you find it more or less convenient than driving?

Did you find it cheaper or more expensive than driving?

Did you find it faster or slower than driving?

Do you think the ticket price was good value?

Did you have to stand up for any part of the journey?

Where refreshments available? Where they reasonably priced?

How did the ticket price compare with flying?

  6. blimey there is a lot but here goes

i don't drive so for me more convenient

    see above

    see above

mine ride was free, but no i don't think a lot of fares are value for money

no i was sat in 1st class there and back (in case you thought my free ride was spent in and out of toilets)

yes they were, and reasonable well bearing in mind you have a captive audience and can charge what you like its not too bad.

Don't know as i did not pay

  7. This morning for my commute and July 2nd for the return trip from my brother's ranch for his birthday and to fight fires.

It's MUCH more convenient to me... with proper planning.

Here in California, it is much cheaper... the roundtrip ticket costs me $19.75 while driving my 35mpg beater would cost me $25 in gas alone.

It IS slower... though during commute hours, it's only an hour slower: 3 hours on the train.  I'd rather "lose" that hour because I can RELAX on the train... sleep, read, work, or play on the computer.

The ticket is a terrific value.

I've never had to stand on the long trip... on my commute I stand because I'm only 3 stops.

Refreshments are not available on either trains, though I always pack a snack on my "long trip".

FLYING would would cost $250 from San Jose to Stockton... 10 times the price of the train.

  8. this morning

    more convenient

    Much cheaper

    faster

    decent value

nope. sat the whole way and slept

    No refreshments

  9. trains are not as convenient as driving

    they are expensive

they can be faster to some destinations but slower to others may have frequent changes and delays and long waits on stations

some tickets can be better if booked in advance and you travel off peak

you often have to stand up for a lot of the journey during peak times

some refreshments are sometimes available for part of the journey

  11. Trains are great use them all the time ,most problems are caused by other folk  jumpers, not stopping at Level crossings

tall vehicled hitting bridges, stone throwers, obstructions on line   tickets are brill I find cheap fares for many on these pages

    Mchester-Plymouth on a Sat under 18quid

  12. Last used a train a week ago as I have been on Holiday this week.  Trains are very convieniant when heading into London or bigger cities, mainly less expensive when you consider all day parking, petrol and wear and tear costs, are normally faster than driving (from where I live into London City by car would take approx 3 hours in the peak, only takes 1hr 30 mins on slowest service by train) luckily I travel from a strating station and do not have to stand on slow, but the through faster services I have been known to stand the 40miles into London when there is disruption, but normally the train is standing room only on the way home. Refreshments? Buy them outside the railway, on board catering trolley service and cafes on stations are all rip offs because they are independant and have to pay the companies so much money to operate.  Flying is not an option.

    Hope this helps

  15. I travelled to town by train last week.
