Wojtek Wolski signs with Washington Capitals for 1-year, $600,000 -NHL Update
Polish-Canadian left winger, Wojtek Wolski has signed a contract worth $600,000 for one year with Washington Capitals, members of the Southeast Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL).
Washington Capitals will be the fifth team Wolski will play for in his eighth year of playing hockey in NHL.
He has previously played for four different teams since his debut season in 2005 with Colorado Avalanche. He played five seasons with Avalanche, played one and a half season with Phoenix Coyotes and half a season of 2010-2011 with New York Rangers.
He was sent by New York Rangers to their top affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL) for only half of the season and then acquired by Florida Panthers in exchange of Michael Vernace where he spent the other half of 2011-2012.
Now he has joined Washington Capitals on just a one-year contract. It can be expected that there would be many more teams that Wolski would play for, if it remains the same and keeps going this way.
The Polish born left winger would like to improve his performance now and bring more value to his name after his value slumped in the past few seasons. He was worth $942,800 during the first 3 seasons but just $280,000 a year from 2008-2010 and $380,000
a year from 2010-2012. Now he is being given $600,000 for a year with Washington Capitals but would surely like to get it increased more like in his first three seasons.
Wolski said about his signing with Washington Capitals that, "This upcoming year is a great time for me to bounce back and to show I'm still a great player and still have a lot of life left in me." "I struggled the last two years, but I'm definitely highly
motivated, very excited and very hungry. I look forward for the opportunity to play with some great players and think it's going to be a very positive year."
He also said that he would learn a lot from Washington Capitals new coach, Adam Oates, and the offensive approach of the team would also help him a lot.
