Woke up with a swollen eye?

My eye was perfectly fine yesterday, but this morning when I got up it was nearly swollen shut. (Just my left eye, though my right one was a tad swollen.) It's still a little swollen now. What could have caused this?

I have worked for several Optometrist's and I also have worked as an Optometric Assistant.

Could be several things. Could be allergies, or possibly conjuctivitis or "pink eye". If its not better in a day or two I would go to an Optometrist...I wouldnt recommend seeing your Primary Care Doctor because they do not have the tools to look at your eyes.
