Wolf Spirit dominant in the Hambleton Racing Supports Barney’s Challenge Handicap at Redcar
The Class 5 Hambleton Racing Supports Barney’s Challenge Handicap will be held at Redcar over a mile and a furlong on Monday, 14th May. The £2,264 purse will get contested by twelve three-year-old runners.
There is a mix of entries who have already raced during the new season and those who will race their seasonal debut today. There are only two candidates who have race at Redcar, Wolf Spirit and Bedlam.
Even among these two, Wolf Spirit had the race as part of his 2012 campaign while Bedlam will start off with the new season today.
Wolf Spirit, Amadeus’ three-year-old bay gelding out of mare, Nasharaat, has raced thrice during the new season and has posted a victory through the seasonal debut that too at Redcar.
He kick started the season with the John Smith’s Redcar Straight- Mile Championship (Handicap) (Qualifier) over a mile at Redcar on 2nd April. Trained by Ruth Carr, the three-year-old was paired up with James Sullivan for the race and the two
led the runner up of the race, Nameitwhatyoulike, by just half a length.
Nant Saeson settled in third behind the winner while the 3/1 joint favourites, Ghalaa and Sygnature, finished fifth and sixth.
This was for the first and till yet the last time that Wolf Spirit won a race. It was also Wolf Spirit’s very first racing experience at Redcar. The other two outings of the season found him failing dreadfully, ending seventh at Beverley and then eighth
at Haydock.
Today he is aiming the second career and seasonal win through the race. If he has the ability of bagging the seasonal debut at Redcar then there is hardly a doubt that he will fail in his second attempt there.
An entry to look out for is Bedlam, Auction House’s three-year-old bay filly out of mare, Frantic.
She scored second in the Hold Your Christmas Party Here Nursery on 21st September at Redcar over a mile. The race was won by Fiction Or Fact who led the runner up only by half a length which means that Bedlam did not make it an effortless or easy
race for the victor.
She can turn out to be threatening for Wolf Spirit.
