Desperation move to say the least, and no disrespect to Wolf himself, but if The Astros were going to make such a desperate move for a SP, why him? Do they actually think their last 62 games they can go 48-14 to make WC, cause surely thats what it will take. Wasted trade. Your thoughts about this trade?

  1. baseball is boring.

  2. As a favor to the Padres

  3. It's not a wasted trade. Chad Reineke, the minor leaguer the Astros gave up for him, is nowhere in the Astros' future plans.

The only sense that I can make of this trade is that Wolf is going to be a free agent pitcher and the Astros need pitching, since their minor league system is shot. I see this as a three-month tryout to see if Wolf is worth the high money he will likely command this offseason, along with all the other over-priced pitchers.

Best case scenario is that Wolf somehow does well at Minute Maid Park and the Astros sign him to an extension before the season ends. The team saves money and plugs a hole in their rotation with an average-at-best arm.

There's no chance this team makes the WC. They've come back before, but the Astros were never this terrible.
