WolfPack ladies overcome Brandon Bobcats – Volleyball news
What a mixed fortune for the Brandon University volleyball teams as men’s team defeated the Thompson Rivers, while the women’s squad dropped the decision to Thompson Rivers on the same day.
The women’s teams of Brandon University and Thompson Rivers came into contest on Saturday, January 21. The latter performed better and pulled up match victory in four-set play, 3-1 (25-17, 31-29, 16-25, 25-20).
The Bobcats showed more consistency in attack but suffered the damage on account of weak defence.
Moreover, the frequent service errors exploited the scene for Bobcats. The WolfPack ladies put up a valiant effort on the attack side and also benefitted from the silly errors of the opponent. They only had five service errors and six-service reception error.
They dropped one set in a long gruelling battle but turned the match in their favour by winning rest of the three sets.
Anne Weiss of WolfPack chiefly participated in leading her team to success. She topped all the scorers with match-high 20 points, which included impressive 15 kills. Kelly Asleson was equally active on the net and contributed to the overall success of Thompson
Rivers. She recorded 15 kills at a hitting percentage of .357.
On the defence side, Sarah Petterson and Amanda Frayne did an amazing job. They claimed 14 and 13 digs, respectively. Weiss also had 13 digs in the match.

tried to cover the gap but ended up after score 17 points, while the WolfPack closed first set, 25-17.
The second set featured the similar ‘hit n run’ attitude. The Bobcats added a couple of quick point in the first few minutes but then caught up in the unforced mistakes. The WolfPack, on the other hand, remained on the winning course and took the score to
10-5.
After an exchange of aggressive rallies, the Cats managed to catch with the opponent at 16-all. From that point onward, the game turned into a heated competition. The spectators enjoyed the lively action of volleyball, while WolfPack seized set victory with
narrow gap of two points, 31-29.
Brandon Bobcats put on bold front and hit authentic shots in third set. They managed to break the rhythm of opposite side and captured third set with 9-points, 25-16.
Nevertheless, the happiness was short-lived as the WolfPack came up with heavy strike of volleys in the following set and won final set of the game, 25-20. That was how the WolfPack scored 3-1 victory over Bobcats.
