The Bayer Leverkusen CEO has ruled out a summer move for the Manchester United striker, and has advised the Bulgarian to stay at Old Trafford
Wolfgang Holzhauser has rubbished claims linking http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dimitar-Berbatov-c11254 with a return to Bayer Leverkusen at the end of this season.
Holzhauser admitted that the club was never interested in the striker, and his quotes were misinterpreted by the media.
Hozhauser added that he had a friendly conversation with the Bulgarian, and nothing was discussed regarding the player’s transfer. He reckons that Berbatov should continue playing at Old Trafford, as he is a potential match winner
and needs to regain the confidence of his manager.
While talking to DPA, the CEO further stated:
"I view this [the speculation] with some displeasure. The contact between Berbatov and I was only based on a friendly nature. This is pure speculation. Also, we do not want to get involved as the Bulgarian is currently under contract
with Manchester United."
Berbatov’s agent recently claimed that the Werkself bosses have expressed their interest in the striker and have held informal talks with him.
The former CSKA Sofia star has fallen down the pecking order of strikers at Old Trafford despite finishing the 2010/11 Premier League season as highest goal-scorer. The Bulgarian was the joint leading goal-scorer alongside Manchester
City’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlos-c8346 Tevez, but has found life difficult ever since.
The attacker landed at Old Trafford in 2008, and has amassed 45 goals from 103 Premier League appearances so far. He has previously represented Leverkusen for five years (2001-2006), where he managed 154 Bundesliga appearances,
bagging 69 goals during the process.
The Bulgarian’s contract with the Red Devils is set to expire at the end of the ongoing campaign, and he could be on his way out of the club come the end of the season.
Berbatov scored a hat-trick in United’s latest league game against Wigan Athletic, taking his tally to four goals for the campaign. The Red Devils won the game by 5-0.
French giants Paris Saint Germain are also believed to be interested in the former Tottenham Hotspur star.
