Wolfgang Schaefer excited with early lead in 2012 Rolex Farr 40 North American Championship
Some outstanding sailing skills from Germany’s Wolfgang Schaefer on his Struntje Light brought him on top of the initial standings of the 2012 Rolex Farr 40 North American Championship. The German sailor showed great determination on the second day and got
back to business to lead the fleet.
Despite the fact the he started a bit slow on the opening day of the event but he cruised into the leading podium place of the standings with 17 points after performing impressively on the second day of the regatta.
During his run on the Narragansett Bay waters North of the Pell Bridge, the German Farr 40 sailor made some classy moves that brought him in the lead. He claimed only one bullet and a couple of second positions to grab the first podium position of the regatta.
Schaefer was quite excited to clinch the leading position because it will help him boost his confidence to stay on the top and finish the regatta at that position.
While speaking to the local media, Schaefer said, “We had an unlucky start, so we had to let the fleet pass us, but fortunately we had a good recovery A strong crew becomes stronger when they are in a bad position but are able to recover; you learn from
those mistakes and get better. Racing in this class is really challenging, because all of the guys are good.”
The weather conditions on the Newport waters were ideal for a perfect sail on the second day of the regatta. The breeze was wafting around from 10 to 12 knots which was enough for the fleet to complete the scheduled race on time without any difficulty.
