The Wolfsburg based club has announced the transfer of Kevin Pannewitz from the German third division club, Hansa Rostock.
Felix Magath, the much travelled manager, is said to be a huge fan of the player who primarily plays as a defensive midfielder. The 20-year old started as a youth product of MSV Normannia 08, a relatively unknown German lower league
side.
The midfielder started his senior career with Hansa Rostock after joining their youth team. He made a total of 70 appearances for the Northern Club; almost half of these appearances were in the German second division.
Although the German tactician is a huge fan of him but Magath warned him that he will have to work hard week in week out to fulfil his potential, which the youngster was wasting at his previous club.
"Kevin has the potential to be a Bundesliga player, but unfortunately he has not dealt with his talent professionally in recent years," Magath is quoted as saying in an interview
Pannewitz’s new manager is hopeful that his new surroundings and modern training facilities at Wolfsburg will work to the midfielder’s advantage.
"Now he will get a second chance with us and I hope that he takes advantage of his new surroundings," He added.
The former Schalke 04 coach offered the 20-year old a trial at the end of the season, the youngster featured in several friendly matches and is thought to have impressed the manager.
The jump from third division to Bundesliga is a huge one, for any player experienced or inexperienced. Pannewitz has the time on his side; he is still young and at his disposal he will have the services of an experienced German
manager who probably knows his game more than he does himself.
Felix Magath will have to give the youngster some time with the reserve team so he can get used to Wolfsburg’s style of play and to improve his fitness levels, as the fitness levels will differ dramatically from the third division.
Although the former Schalke manager has taken a gamble, but if it pays off then he will have a player and a half in his side.
