Wolverhampton vs. Arsenal: Player Ratings Part 2
Continued...
Karl Henry: 6.5:
Henry struggled to keep up with a fluent opposition midfield. He rarely put in a tackle on Song or Rosicky but did keep his team moving - ensuring they got the ball to their danger-men out wide early.
Nenad Milijas: 5.5:
Nenad tested the Arsenal goalkeeper with a long-range strike in the first half. He had little of the ball but rarely misplaced a pass. Nenad looked the home side’s most creative player and the most likely to unlock the opposition’s defence.
Matthew Jarvis: 6.5:
Jarvis could not maintain his impressive display this season and struggled to make his mark on the game. When he occasionally did find space to deliver, his quality was evident and it was a shame that there weren’t enough team-mates attacking the ball. Jarvis initially caused Arsenal’s left back, Bacary Sagna, some problems when he switched to that wing but faded towards the end of the game.
Kevin Doyle: 5.5:
The under-fire Wolves striker held the ball up well and caused the opposition defence problems with his high energy levels. But his inability to put the ball in the back of the net was highlighted once again. Doyle hasn't got a goal to his name this season and had no clear opportunities to improve that record. Moreover, Doyle was unlucky to see his strike from the edge of the area tipped wide when it appeared to be heading for the top corner. What best summed up his season so far was when he missed a glorious chance - firing wide from inside the area with only the goalkeeper to beat.
Arsenal
Lukasz Fabianski: 8.5:
It was an outstanding performance from the Gunners’ goalkeeper. A number of impressive saves ensured his team remained ahead on the score sheet. The error in the last match against Newcastle certainly seems to have faded.
Bacary Sagna: 7:
Bacary Sagna was not too keen going forward, which allowed the opposition to enjoy more time on the ball. But, he defended strongly and maintained a clean sheet.
Sebastien Squillaci: 7:
Squillaci lead the defensive line credibly and made a number of smart interceptions alongside the odd powerful headed clearance.
Johan Djourou: 6.5:
Johan Djourou did not look comfortable during the first few minutes of the match but as the game wore on he started to make some strong challenges. Djourou also provided a commanding presence from set pieces and was unlucky not to score his first Arsenal goal late on.
Gael Clichy: 7.5:
The veteran left back was strong and tidy during the match. He was energetic and defended his flank well.
Alexandre Song: 7:
He made a number of crucial challenges at the heart of the midfield. Alex Song performed impressively in his holding midfield role to ensure all three points.
Jack Wilshere: 6.5:
Wilshere was not as active and energetic in attack, largely due to the opposition’s physical approach and lack of possession. However, the English starlet made a number of strong interceptions and rarely made an error in possession.
Cesc Fabregas: 6:
Cesc Fabregas endured a lacklustre performance. He failed to capitalise on some great chances and played too many stray passes. He also missed a glorious chance to score in the second half.
Tomas Rosicky: 7:
It was a decent performance from Rosicky, who contributed greatly in attack. He reacted impressively to orchestrate the first goal.
Andrei Arshavin: 6.5:
Arshavin was once again wasteful in front of goal on more than one occasion. However, Arshavin was always a threat on the ball and provided a reliable option out wide.
Marouane Chamakh: 8:
It was a terrific performance from Chamakh. He took his chances well and worked tirelessly throughout the game. Marouane Chamakh was also a threat from set-pieces.
