Wolves midfielder Adlene Guedioura suffers broken leg
Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Adlene Guedioura is facing an extended spell out of action after it was confirmed on Monday that he fractured his tibia.
The 24-year-old sustained the injury in his side’s 2-1 English Premier League home defeat against Aston Villa on Sunday when he was involved in a challenge with Villa midfielder Steve Sidwell towards the
end of the match. He was taken to hospital straight away for an x-ray and the extent of the injury was revealed. As a result of the fracture, the prognosis indicates that Guedioura will be on the sidelines for at least four months.
“It's desperately disappointing news both for Adlene and the club. Everyone wishes him all the best in his recovery," Wolves manager Mick McCarthy told the club’s official website on Monday.
Algeria international Guedioura, who joined Wolves in January from Charleroi, underwent further tests on Monday and it was discovered that the fracture was 'uncomplicated'.
'Lengthy absence'
The head of Wolves’ medical staff, Steve Kemp, said that meant the news was about as good as could be given the situation.
“It is going to be a lengthy absence but on the plus side the consultant has told us it's an uncomplicated fracture.  Adlene will be in a full leg non weight-bearing cast for four weeks before progressing
to a partial weight-bearing cast after that," said Kemp.
Guedioura has impressed since arriving at Molineux at the start of the year, initially on a loan deal. His good form led to him becoming a permanent member of the Wolves' set-up for an undisclosed fee
at the end of last season.
He started in both of the side’s Carling Cup matches this campaign, while he has made substitute appearances in four of the team’s EPL matches so far. To date, he has made 20 appearances for the Wolves
first-team and has scored one goal.
