Hi we have outside cats and a little bit ago i saw a dog shaking a dead thing that i thought was a kitten so i chased the dog off but the "kitten" wasn't a kitten at all, it looked like a wombat only it had a fluffy tail, was smaller, and it's cheeks were kinda poofy,

oh and one more thing we live in the U.S.

so does anyone have an idea what it was?

  1. its prolly not a wombat....praire dog...or a mole maybe, umm it mite of been a puppy mix..woodchuck, squirrel , chipmunk, .bunny etc

  2. It's not a wombat.  Wombat's don't have tails.  Wombats are also pretty big as far as "small animals" go.  A 4 month old wombat is about the size of a toddler.  Adults get to be about 4 feet long and weigh probably about as much as a comparable sized pig.

Having said that, what is probably is will depend on what region in the US you are from.  From your description, it sounds like it might be a gopher.  It sounds too "fat" to be a prairie dog.

  3. Possibly a Prairie dog?

I could have been several other types of rodents. Beaver, nutria, chipmunk, groundhog, pika, etc.
