Question:

Women's Hockey Skates (beginners')?

I'm starting adult hockey classes in a few weeks and I can't decide what kind of skates to get. I'm on a limited budget (trying to spend $120 US or less--i have to buy all the gear at once!) but I don't want to get super crappy skates, either. What brands/kinds are good and what should I look for? If it helps, my feet are pretty short and relatively wide. I fit the best in size 5.5-6 boy's shoes LOL

  1. Go to a pro shop and try a few brands on. Then, go to the local play it again sports and find something in that size. You may fit a junior skate, in which case you're in luck. The junior skates are pretty much the same skate, but a lot cheaper (to hook  the kid on a brand or a skate they like)

You can also get skates on closeout. Good skates from the past model year...

Go to a shop and try a few on. But there are great deals on old skate models. Look at the Synergy models here:

Easton's new model is the stealth.

    Or if Bauers fit better,

In general, the higher the number the better.

  2. If your just starting, you should go to your local sports store and they will probably have used equipment. I know it sounds bad, but if you haven't played before sure you like hockey. (it is almost impossible to find equipment for 120 dollars or less). Once you begin to play more and more and get better, then you can start buying new equipment. For skates, i recommend getting Bauer Vapor. When i first started playing, my parents didn't want to spend all the money to buy me brand new gear because they weren't sure if i would like it. My neighbors hear that i was going to play hockey and they let me use their gear that was too small for them. You should ask people you know if they have anything that doesn't fit them anymore or they don't use anymore. The good part about that is its free! i hope you enjoy playing hockey!

  3. If you expect to play a lot you will need some higher end skates.  But if you are only on the ice a couple of times a week I suggest some bauer 8090's.  If you are on the ice a lot then you will definately want to spend some extra cash.  I wear Bauer Vapor x*x's because I play high school and i'm on the ice 3-4 times a week right now.  During the season 5-6 times a week.

  4. You may want to look at an older version of Bauer Vapor skates. The models from a few years ago would be in your budget. You could also get them new for that price. I use the Bauer skates and really love them. But definitely try them on . I found CCM a bit narrow for me.

  5. WELL IF YOUR TRYIN TO BUY EVERYTHING FOR 120 ALL TOGETHER THEN KEEP ON DREAMING THATS BEARELY ANOUGH TO GET A MEDIUM STICK.....
