Question:

Women's gymnastics in the Olympics scoring?

In the Olympics, in women's gymnastics, the women were ending up with scores around 15 or 16. I know 10 is for execution. I think the other points come from difficulty level. I was wondering how high Olympians put their difficulty level. I was wondering if anyone ever had a difficulty level of 10 or if 6.5 was as high as they went?

  1. The scoring has changed in regards to "the perfect 10". it is sepeated into 2 scores, averaged and totalled. it's a little difficult to explain, however the higher the score the better. it's a bit like the diving scoring.

  2. It really depends on the part of gymnastics that they are doing. For example the high bar can be a very high score because there is a large range for the difficulty level and what you can do on a high bar. Something like the pummel horse however, where there is not too many things different that you can do, will be more low scoring on average. I don't think you will ever see a perfect ten for difficulty though because then that would mean that there was absolutely no way anyone could ever improve upon it. You can see higher than a 6.5 though and it should be noted that usually you don't get a perfect 10 for execution either. In the old days they just gave it a score for how good something seemed, in a way, and thats why this new system can be confusing but is really better and more comprehensive.

  3. Difficulty levels vary on which apparatus they are on.  I know last night, some of the girls (Nastia and Shawn, I think) were doing bars routines with difficulty levels of 7.1 at least.
