In the 4th match of the Champions Trophy, Germany and defending Champions Argentina played a 2-2 draw. In the 5th match, hosts England were thrashed to a 0-3 defeat against Olympic Champions Netherlands. Meanwhile, China won against New Zealand when they beaten them by 3 goals to 1 in the last match of the day.
In the first match of the Champions trophy on Day 2, Germany and Argentina faced off against each other. Argentina started the match with more ball possession and attacked the German goal with much more authority. Luciana Amyer launched two attacks but the strikes were brilliantly saved by Germany’s defence. German goalkeeper Barbara Vogel saved two attacks in the 11th and 13th minute to keep her side away from going into a two-goal deficit. The Germans, who were slow to start the match, came back strongly when Natascha Keller scored the first goal for the side in the 20th minute of the match. Argentina came up with some good moves as well but failed to score. At the end of the first half, Germany was leading by one goal to nil. Like the first half, the South Americans were on top from the start of the second half too. After some initial failures in their attack, the Argentineans scored 2 consecutive goals in the 41st and 43rd minute. Mariana Rossi scored the equalizer and Noel Barrionuevo gave her side a lead of one goal on a penalty corner rebound. The Argentinean side was attacking the German post to build on their lead but continued to face tough challenges from the opposition defenders. Germany scored the equalizer in the 58th minute of the match when Tina Bachman scored on a penalty corner. The defending Champions were awarded three penalty corners in the last 10 minutes but they couldn’t capitalize on any one of them. Germany and Argentina got 1 point each from this draw.
In the second match of the day, the Netherlands proved too good for the hosts. Dutch forward Naomi Van As came up with good moves and came closer to score the opening goal but couldn’t. The first Dutch goal was scored by Eleen Hoog when she scored on a reverse stick strike into the bottom of the goal in the 23rd minute of the match. Kelly Jonker scored the second goal from the top of the D in the 31st minute of the match. England was clearly rusty today and could not replicate their performance against Argentina on Saturday. Netherland’s Eva De Goede scored the last goal in the 66th minute to confirm their victory against the English side by 3-0.
In last match of the day, China outclassed the black sticks by three goals to one. The match started with both teams attacking each other with some stylish moves. The first goal of the match came from the stick of FU Boarong when she deflected the ball into the goal in the 9th minute of the match. After going into deficit, New Zealand players fought hard to equalize but the Chinese defence denied them the chance to score in the 15th and 23rd minute of the match. The first half of the match ended with the Chinese side dominating the game. In second half of the match, both sides came out to the field with an aggressive intent. However, it was the Chinese side that scored when Song Qingling scored in the 14th minute of the second half. In the 28th minute of the second half, Fu Boarong scored her second goal. With only 2 minutes remaining, New Zealand scored a consolation goal when Charlotte Harrison scored a field goal.
