Women Championship Tournament Final Stage: Day Two Round-up
The teams of G-Oil and Prima edged past Catena and The Villages respectively on Day Two games in the final stage of the Women Championship Tournament (WCT). The competitors were held at the International Polo Club in Wellington, Florida.
G-Oil – Catena (0-2 handicap goals)
Every player of G-Oil partook in the scoring and played a vital role in the 9-4 convincing victory. Catena obtained an early point in the head of handicap, but it was their only score of the period. From the other side, Tiffany Busch scored a pair of goals
of which one came on a penalty-shot while other from the field. The period ended with G-Oil leading the game by a single point, 2-1.
In the second frame, the G-Oil trio of Cecelia Cochran, Erica Gandomcar and Busch scored one goal apiece, while limiting Catena only for a single goal. Jolie Liston of Catena, the polo player from Atlanta, connected on a spot-shot and that was the final
offence from their side. At the half-time, G-Oil was holding a three-point lead, 5-2.
In the next two frames, Catena remained scoreless and lost the game with a heavy margin. The entire G-Oil lineup including Busch, Cochran, Gandomcar and Kate Vanoff scored one goal each in the remaining period. They won the game by five goals and moved forward
in the final stage.
Busch was highest scorer of the game with four points, while Cochran and Gandomcar scored twice in the win. Kate Vanoff accounted for a solitary effort. Liston was the player of Catena who scored all the two goals in the period.
Prima – The Villages (3-6 handicap goals)
Tiffany Busch scored three times, as Prima edged past The Villages in the final stage of the Women Championship Tournament.
Prima opened the game aggressively and established their early dominance in the game. Alina Carta and her team-mate, Busch, scored one goal apiece in the first set of play. Tamara Vestey, the polo player, from England brought The Villages into the score-net
through a field effort.
The players from Prima started more offensive game in the second frame, but scored only one goal while holding The Villages goal-less in the period. Cecelia Cochran scored the only goal of the round to further expand the lead of Prima up to two goals, 3-1.
In an unprecedented move, The Villages obtained four goals in the third chukka, while limiting Prima only for a single score. Vestey added a couple of goals, while her team-mates, Natascha Baecher and Erica Gandomcar, scored one goal apiece to take their
first lead in the game. Busch was the solitary goal-taker from Prima in the third set of play. The Villages led the game by a narrow one-goal lead, 5-4, with one chukka left to play.
The final chukka completely belonged to Prima, which earned three goals while holding The Villages goal-less in the period. Lesley Ann Masterton Fong-Yee notched the first goal of the day while Busch and Cochran added another two goals to seal the Prima
victory at 7-5.
Busch notched three points while her team-mate, Cochran, added two points in the win. Fong-Yee and Carta scored one goal each in the crucial match.
Vestey set the pace for The Villages with three points while Baecher and Gandomcar nailed one goal apiece in the loss.
