Canada thrashes Chile by 3-0 in second test of five-match series

The women’s field hockey team of Canada after falling to Chile in the first game revved it up and tied the five-match series at 1-1, with three contests left to play. The Canadian squad enhanced their mental and physical stamina in the second game and punched
three goals while holding the Chilean players scoreless in the seventy minutes of play. The one-sided contest was played On Monday at the field of Manquehue Club, Santiago.
The girls of Canada displayed very impressive show in the second contest particularly their ball handling and attacking strategies. It was quite difficult for a visiting team to completely shutout the strike of host team (Chile), but the committed players
of Canada achieved it through a brilliant performance.
The two teams were playing the game quite aggressively, but Canada succeeded to mark first score of the day in the 25th minute of the match. Jess Walkey managed to take the ball away and spanked a direct hit, but it was blocked by the goal-keeper.
However, Kate Gillis succeeded to take the rebounding shot and through a reverse stick marked a drive perfectly into the goalposts. She scored her second goal of the series and established their early dominance in the game.
The Canadian strikers were continued their attacks in the later time period in a bid to put Chile under heavy pressure. Katie Baker tested a penalty corner in the last minutes of the first chukker but failed to convert it. Canada was leading the game by
one goal, 1-0 after the first half of play.
The game in the second half action was continued with same intensity and filled with lot of attacks and counter-attacks. However, the defenders of Canada showed excellent game and kept Chile off the scoreboard even throughout the thirty-five minutes.
The squad of Chile though received some penalty-corners in the period, but failed to convert them into successful scores. The defence line of Canada including Steph Jameson and Same Smith denied numerous efforts from Chilean strikers.
Jessaylyn Walkey managed to dodge two defending players of Chile and passed the ball to Henning inside the circle. Henning further passed the ball to Gillis who played a drag flick and earned second goal of the day and third of the series. With the second
goal of the day, Canada extended the lead up to two goals and reduced the chances for Chile to make a comeback into the game.
Canada earned another short-corner in the 56th minute of the game, converted it from Krissy Wihart, and expanded the lead up to three points. An end to end play was observed in the remaining time period and with final whistle of the time completion
Canada rode off the field with a commanding 3-0 victory.
