Women Shelter...?

(If you look at the question that I asked before about running away, its related to that question so you should read that so you can understand this one). I'm going to runaway but some people said on the question that I asked yesterday is that you should go to a Women Abuse or whatever shelter. I was wondering... If I ran away from my family and go to the "Women Abuse Shelter", will I able to get another family? Will I able to go to school? My wish is that I want to find a good family to live with until I finish Highschool, to go finish highschool and acomplish my dream. Is that possible, I can't live any longer with my family. I might miss them, its really difficult to call them "Mom" and "Dad". I just want to have a new family. (I don't know how shelters work, really so can someone explain?).

  1. I know in our town we have a home that is set up just for teens from 15-18 who cannot remain at home...but not in a situation for CPS to get involved...you can look at the link I put...this is geared to help young teens in need...it's 24/7...call them...they can tell you who to contact in your town...all calls remain confidential so don't worry...I hope this helps...try resources that won't put you in a position of being on the streets or with strangers...it's so dangerous these days for young girls...for anyone really....call these people before deciding anything

  2. What you really need to look for are teenage homes. We have one in our area just for girls like you. Called "crysalis house" its just for girls that are stuck in that limbo of 14-19 stage and have no where else to go. This is often the age where girls in a tough home life would find themselves loured into a life of prostitution, drugs and gangs... anything to get away from a nasty family situation.

These places are staffed by people trained in helping people in your situation. They offer free group home like settings so that you can finish your schooling, without the adult worries of rent or worse.

Other places have them too, some can be found under covenant house (toronto area and stateside) boys and girls or boystown.

A battered womans shelter would likely be unable to help you since you really don't meet their mandate, but they would be able to point you in the right direction of where to go.

  3. i think you need to get help from a adult a friend or a teacher at school because you cant just run away from home and show up at a shelter.

  4. Womans Shelters are for: The Homeless--and Battered and Abused women...trying to get away form abusive people....

There are thousands of teenagers who have decided to run away and try to live in shelters.... Usually the shelters will kick everyone out at about 7-8 am and then at about 4pm they will start allowing people back in....  There might be Group Homes...or other arrangements....

The people working in these places WILL report Minors to the authorities.... To be sure they are not, "Missing Children" kidnapped or Run A Ways....

That's why Teenage Run A ways.... avoid them....they eventually end up grouping together and helping each other out while on the streets.... because the Authorities will move in and investigate the issues of Children needing a Shelter without their mother....

If things are this bad at home and you want to be adopted one of the few ways that is ever going to happen is to call Children Protective Services and tell them you want to be placed into Foster Care and to be adopted....

Good Luck with that....there are about 120,000 children WAITING right Now in the US.... These kids were beaten, molested and abused --lived on the streets or in drug houses....  Every year about 17,000 children turn 18 and leave foster care without being adopted.....

If you are abused then call 911 or children's services....

Once you are in Foster Care (or in order to adopted by anyone withouth your parents Agreeing) the State will Prove your parents are Unfit and then terminate their rights--then someone can adopt you.....
