Many women (and men too) use the word lady and they have no idea what it mean. In one of the answer a female user wrote (and I quote) " lady rapped (she meant raped) and killed a man by coming into the house". Well if women rapes and kills a man how come she can be called a lady?

(if somebody wants I will give you the link for above quote)

Well, not that I have any problem with that but I just wanted to see if people are willing to use correct words in their language.

  1. Yeah that's used out of context. Lady refers to a proper woman. If a woman raped and killed a man she is nothing more than a female or a woman... certainly not lady-like. ;)

  2. The word "lady" is not the female version of "gentleman" anymore

It is so commonly used because society is scared of the word WOMAN

Ever notice why grown women are often referred to as girls?

I never see grown men referred to as boys..

When "girls" is deemed too patronizing for adults the world "lady" is used, even if it is a misnomer, such as in the article

  3. Words mean different things to different people.

The word 'lady' originally meant the wife of a knight.

I doubt many people use it to mean that any more, instead it is generally used to mean a well behaved mature woman.

However, many other people simply use it as a substitute for the word 'woman'.

No harm in either usage, as far as I can see.

    Cheers :-)
